What would fans of EC universe think of a story in which the possibility of women purchasing their freedom at all was completely outlawed?

I can see that the pros of this are it would make it much easier for trade to be fuelled and supplied with girls, but in actual fact the freedom clause does make for some interesting stories. After all, rules are made to be broken.

Pretty bad idea.
It's so much fun to watch females tricked into Slavery. Just think about BG 4 and 5. What's left of the Comics without "Chrissy Cummings" and her path to slavery.

A real bad idea at all.

Isn't that the case already? I mean, as is, the 'free' women have to lease their freedom [from the government]. One cannot buy absolute freedom for women, only rent it. The freedom is thus a temporary state, a license(?) that is only valid until either the fees stop being payed, or that it's revoked for some reason. Thus they're never actually free.

Well put. The Freedom Clause is really a piece of Orwellian propaganda. The inevitable conclusion from reading E.'s work is that there is no such thing as a free woman in the E-verse. The illusion that there might be is just another example of dystopian cruelty.

Sooner or later, as some of the characters have said openly, it's every woman's destiny to end up a slave.

That means that when we actually get our hands on it we can see where the dialog was changed by DoF.
