I like suspension bondage a lot. It was Japanese bondage what caught my attention when I was a teenager in th early years of internet porn I was spending 90 per cnt of my internet time looking for Japanese bondage pictures.

so my question is, can we have some more of that stuff in your comics. I know there was some in slave fair and a great image in the Bottom
but I'm hungry for more!!

For my personal tastes, that's too symmetrical. I like the off-balance feeling, the wobbliness, that comes from an asymmetrical suspension. It could also use a touch of predicament, or some motion outside her control, like being suspended from bungee cords, a pendulum, a weather-vane, a bridge, etc. I also like, in suspension, the element of exposure, indefensibility: it's worse than the gyno's office, when your holes are just up in the air, at eye-level, and you're struggling with your balance and the blood rushing to your head while guys are cracking jokes about your labia looking like one of the Muppets, or playing drinking-games centered around whether they can throw a quarter and hit your sphincter with it. It's scary, humiliating, objectifying stuff. I can't say I enjoy it while it's happening, but it's fun and crazy-hot to think about afterwards.

I do like suspensions too. But I have a few problems with it when it comes to comics.

First, it is rather difficult to do it right. And remember that in comics, you often have to draw a figure multiple times. A figure in shibari or shibari-based suspension would take me at least three-four times longer to draw, especially if the rope work is intricate and complex. The Hung-ho scene in SF2 was one of the longest I took to finish, and the bondage was rather simple in that one. I do symphatize with the real-world riggers and artists, because it must be even more difficult and time consuming to get it right. Besides, they work with real people with blood circulation and pain thresholds. I don't have to consider my toons' comfort when I'm working. (Okay, sometimes I do.)

Secondly, while I do like this particular version of bondage in its ideal form, generally I'm not crazy about the way it transforms the female body, especially certain parts of it. Take the tits, for example. I have my own "idealized" form in my mind, and I hate to see it distorted by ropes. Do I draw that kind of thing occasionally, yes. But there has to be a very good reason. And generally I'm done in a panel or two.

Thirdly, my preference for action often stops me from going for shibari and suspension in general. I want my characters to move around. Heavy bondage rarely permits a story to flow quickly. When I draw a suspension I generally visit the scene towards the end of the action (like the whipping scene in SC2, Maggie in BG2, etc.). Also I don't like suspension for suspension's sake. I think it should serve a purpose. Pure aesthetics is fine in grand scale (decorating a Hotel?), but normal people like Peter for example would suspend their slaves in order to fuck them more comfortably.

Having said that, I will of course continue to include suspensions whenever they serve the story. I even had a project with that theme, but I never developed it because I was intimidated by my tiresome experience with the SF2 scene.

Funny coincidence. I just weighed in on a FetLife thread called "Suspensions are Bullshit." As a former professional rigger with permanent tendonitis in both hands and arms, I find it tedious and painful to do, but more importantly, I find it gets in the way of fucking. Hardly anyone can stay suspended long enough to have any real fun. It's mostly just a showy party trick.

I did make an exception for upside down suspensions, which can be done quite easily and comfortable and make for a quality BJ experience, complete with a lovely view at eye level.

But that's real life and fortunately 'toons can be levitated by the magic of the artist's imagination.

Y'know, even though I have virtually no real world experience of suspensions or the more complex bondage work, I was taken right out of the story at the beginning of BG2 when Peter had Maggie suspended upside down over his bed ALL NIGHT.

I couldn't stop thinking that she would have had some serious pain and maybe even damage from the blood pooling in her head for several hours.

A posture collar and a pair of handcuffs is plenty for me. If you want to get really elaborate a spreader bar can be a fun look.

And as the esteemed Mr Greene :mrgreen: says; all that rope tying is really labor intensive and gets in the way of putting your dick inside the girl.


(on the other hand people want what they want and a photo shoot can create a nice illusion)

Yeah I thought the same thing. But as E says, Maggie has no blood circulation :lol:

Based on what E says I revisited one of my favorite suspension scenes: the one in Frankie Stein monster, where Igor is playing with two suspended girls. It takes ac couple panels, it is functional, and no tit distortion. I really LOVE the way they are tied up, they can be used in every way, and they are completely helpless.

I also liked the similar scene at the end of the Bottom.Single panel, functional and little distortion. I even think E does an homage to the Frankie Stein scene there :D :D

And the suspension hall scene in Slave Fair year 2 is the best part of that comic imho, so the extra effort pays off definitely.

I agree with this. I agree with E on functional bondage but its aesthetics is very appealing for me. The way the woman is bound, especially if she is embarrassingly exposed and maybe off-balance, is a form of static torture. Maybe not leave the woman suspended upside down all night, but put her on her on one tiptoe in a position where she has to keep her balance for a long time. One leg up, genital area exposed.

No tit distortion necessary.

Personally my favourite 'suspension' is Hannah Cox in the Clinic where her feet are spread by a bar.

Umm now that I think about it I am doubtful it counts as suspension.

I had to go through all my E books to list the suspensions.
I counted only the ones where the girl's feet are off the ground. there are a lot of whipping scenes with tiptoe suspensions I didn't count. Also, some girls are suspended in cages, I didn't count those either. Also, instances where girls are held in the air by men and monsters, didn't count.


in BFA, Gloria is suspended in a very very very cruel way, from her nipples and clit. (it looks very painful but she survives)
n FSS, Sarah is suspended spread eagled, she is whipped on the pussy. There are other girls mounted on the wall in suspension-like posiitons.
in Roommates, Isabella is suspended upside down, for whipping and blowjobs
in BG2, Maggie is hanging upside down over Peter's bed for the morning blowjob.
in BG3, Claire is suspended in different positions.
in SF, the girl in monkey costume is suspended upside down for blowjobs.
in BG4, Heather is suspended from a tree when Jeff rents her to the students for 5 bucks.
in Frankie Stein, a lot of suspensions. The brunette and the blonde are suspended by Igor, then Frankie is suspended in different positions during her training.

Wow. I didn't know I've done so many. When I complained about difficulty earlier, I was referring to Japanese style bondage- the type you have to use a a couple miles of rope on each girl.

I agree entirely with this, being equally unused to doing such rigging, I can only go on what I have seen on the net, DVDs and in books. There is an undeniable aesthetic beauty to it, when done properly, and the imagery can be breathtaking but I have also seen how long that takes and especially when the video shows it being done "Live" it can quickly become "dead air" give us a montage by all means but not too long. As Mr Greene points out it is a lot of effort for pretty short term benefits. This is of course the great benefit of comics - no set up, no anatomical issues and no limits save one's imagination.
