What about simple bonded labour?

This is what I like to call the Joseph scenario. Serfdom is where people belonged to the lord/land.

What if there was mass starvation - a result of pestilence (i.e foot & Mouth, Mad Cow, Bird Flu) and famine (Irish Potatoes) and the people who are just box checkers and lacking a practical marketable skill in a collapsing world 'sold' themselves in exchange for food.

Or engaged in a irrevocable transferable unlimited duties bonded employment contract in exchange for the Lord/Masters supply of food, clothing and shelter. And then when the 'employee' became too old they were released into starvation but the cost to the public purse associated with disposing of so many old slave bodies (who died because they had no money to purchase food!) meant that the humane thing to do with discarded slaves was to put them down and have their employer pay the disposal fee. As the previous employers objected to paying 'redundancy' a license fee was introduced to these unlimited duty contractors at the start of their contract with the intent of covering the eventual disposal.

Thus slavery came back into being.

Because a lot of the money was in the hands of men women became valued and thus slavery was limited to them. A slave breeder attempted to genetically modify a slave to only breed more valuable female slaves 'accidently' ended up releasing the virus to the general population and men became valued due to their 'rarity'.

The fact that men were wanting sons and not daughters did not mean they chose to take the injection with informed consent. That is entirely coincidental. ;)

You are right. But also see http://house.wikia.com/wiki/Moving_the_Chains.

In that one the African-American player had melanoma, the evidence of which was found between his toes... at the last minute.

Why not a combination of several major factors? I have a flashback story in the works. It will give you more hints about the revolution.

At the risk of crossing threads, J.P Marteau will not actually appear at all but will still dominate this whole comic story enough to get a mention as the first male in the wiki character list.
