I voted NO. No way, no how, not in a million years. There are too many dark and creepy things rolling around in my brainbox, things best left unknown to all but myself. I have a LOT of skeletons locked away in my little grey cells and that's where I intend to keep them.

Hmmm...

Most people seem to think of telepathy as ALL of your thoughts are open to a telepath. What a horrid thought.

Except for surface thoughts, which would be more like being attacked by mobile thorny vines they would need to protect themselves from, wouldn't it be more like the telepath is performing a deep drilling operation to uncover what they are looking for? Memories, perceptions, or "control centers", it would be a lot of hard work.

And if both were telepaths, wouldn't it be more likely they would be able share or hide various layers of consciousness, or even create or eliminate partitions within those layers between themselves?

True, I for one think of telepaths as having the ability to delve into the deepest recesses of the mind to get whatever information they are after. Most likely they are only going to read surface thoughts, but if they find something worth investigating what's going to stop them? Unless we developed a means of blocking the ability we'd be nothing but open books for them.

These telepaths would have probably heard worse thoughts, tapped into worse memories, and read worse minds.
I would assume reading something horrible would either cause a once microaggression or just fade into the black of all the horrible things we think

The books the question was initally based on had humans being entirely open to telepaths. Memories could be changed or deleated at will. New ones implanted. One persons entire persoanlity, 20+ years was destoyed without a trace - except for her accent.

Humans were incapable of hiding anything and unable to effectivly rebel. Humans were slowly assimilated into alien culture except for a few 'querks'.

I'd say no.. And not only for sex. I'm a control freak, and I'd be the first one to buy a Magneto helmet if it was real.

I'm not a control freak. In fact, I like being controlled in certain situations. However, I like to know I'm being controlled and have the ability to stop it if and when I want. A telepath as being described in this thread - with the ability to not only read thoughts but implant them and erase memories is definitely NOT something I'd like to see.

That being said...The line for Magneto helmets starts behind me.

I voted yes on this poll because, you know, that's the choice where I get laid. :D

With the friendly telepath option she'd already be able to read my mind and be okay with whatever she found there.

With the evil alien telepath who can alter my thoughts and memories it doesn't seem that the choice is really mine to make.

(in a world with evil telepaths, count me in for a helmet too) :|

Interesting how the vote totals have changed on this thread. At the beginning a clear majority seemed to think a telepathic partner would be a good thing. Subsequent discussion has raised issues that challenge that belief. Now the numbers are shifting.

I should have clarified in my own post that while I would have no problems with a telepath who could simply read my thoughts, I would be the first to agree that having anyone muck around and change things in there (it's cluttered enough already now, thanks) would be a very bad idea.

That's why I wear this tin-foil hat around ...

Reading minds and not manipulating thoughts, sounds like breaking into a bank vault and not stealing anything. You know you won't be able to stop yourselves if you had the ability.

Interesting analogy that I had not thought of! I think that you are correct about the temptations.

I don't know. Not much to look at in a bank vault. You would never go in there for any other reason but to remove something (or put something in). Maybe a museum would be a better analogy. If you read someone else's diary, do you necessarily rip out some pages?

You might not rip out some pages in a diary but you would use knowledge gained. It might not be striaght out like teasing but having that knowledge would affect you and come an arguement some transgression would be used against them.

Plus do you really want somebody to read your diary in the first place?

Depends on who this somebody is. Let me put it like this; I wouldn't want to live with a person that I would be afraid to show my diary for.

Well, no. But I didn't have sex with my siblings.

Suddenly your family dynamics are of interest as teasing siblings was something that kept us entertained. Not that we would make people cry but reading a diary would have been very informative and immediately exploited without mercy.

I am wondering if there was a big age gap between you?

And yes a new Poll on siblings seems to be in the works.

My question to you is Did you censor what you put in your diary? I am sure some things were omitted. And some of those things were probably significant.

I never kept a diary until I was out of my parents' house out of fear someone would find and read it. Even way back in the day thoughts of submission, and other kinks, ran rampant in my mind and my family would never have understood.

I've kept bits and pieces of diary across a few books, but never enough to really have any decent timeline, just enough for earlier entries to make sense now.
Well, whiny teenager sense anyway.
